The Stanley Cup Playoffs are just heating up as the action continues on Friday.

On Thursday, the Ottawa Senators drew first blood in the Battle for Canada when they took Game 1 over the Montreal Canadians 4-2; Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson played a big part in that with 48 saves. Meanwhile, the Washington Capitals lead 1-0 in their first round series with the New York Rangers after winning Game 1 by a 3-1 final score thanks to a goal from Washington's Jason Chimera.

The St. Louis Blues took Game 2 from the defending Stanly Cup Champion L.A. Kings with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Barret Jackman and Brian Elliott to give the Blues a 2-0 edge in the series. And the Detroit Red Wings tied the series with the Anaheim Ducks at 1-all with a 5-4 overtime win thanks to Gustav Nyquist's power play goal.

On Friday, the Senators look to take a 2-0 lead in the series when they once again clash with the Canadians in Game 2 of the series. Anderson was big in the goalie slot for Ottawa on Thursday and the Senators will need him to do it again, but the Canadians have home ice advantage in this game and are looking to use that to their benefit.

In Pittsburgh, John Tavares and the New York Islanders look to rebound from a crushing 5-0 loss in Game 1 to even the series with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Armed with Sidney Crosby, who is making his return on Friday after sitting out a month with a broken jaw, and the home ice edge in their favor, Pittsburgh is looking to make it 2-0 and get halfway to the semifinals.

Then in the windy city, the Chicago Blackhawks host the Minnesota Wild. The Blackhawks took Game 1 on Tuesday in a 2-1 heart-stopper in overtime. The Wild were hurt by the loss of star goalie Niklas Backstrom before Game 1 with a leg injury during warm-up and is day-to-day, but it is possible he could be back to help Minnesota in their bid to tie the series.

And in Vancouver, the San Jose Sharks are hoping to press their advantage after winning Game 1 of their series against the Vancouver Canucks 3-1 on Wednesday when they clash again in Game 2. Sharks goalie Antti Niemi should expect a lot of pressure from Vancouver, while Sharks captain Joe Thorton hopes to lead San Jose to another victory and a 2-0 advantage in the first round series.
