"The Daily Show" has earned its reputation as one of the most entertaining and informative news programs on television. Although its absurdly left viewpoints can skew the show's content, people still tune in for a good dose of news and laughter, the perfect combination. The show's long time host, Jon Stewart, has crafted "The Daily Show" into something that's as enjoyable as it is informative. He's been the face of Comedy Central late night since he took the position in in 1999. Without Stewart, "The Daily Show" wouldn't be what it is today. That's why it comes as a great surprise that he will be stepping down as host, at least for a little while.

Stewart will be taking a three-month break from "The Daily Show" while directing his first feature film, "Rosewater." It's unclear when or whether he will return, but "Daily Show" fans hope to get him back as soon as possible.

In the meantime, "Daily Show" correspondent John Oliver will be picking up where Stewart leaves off. He's been writing and performing on the show since 2006 and his witty, liberal humor has proved to be a perfect fit. The opportunity could open doors for Oliver's career. In the past, "The Daily Show" has served as a jump off point for many former correspondents, including Steve Carell, Ed Helms and Stephen Colbert.

"Rosewater" is based off the best-selling nonfiction book "Then They Came for Me: A Family's Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival." Based on the title alone, fans can see that the film will stray away from Stewart's comedic roots. It tells the story of Iranian-British journalist Maziar Bahari, who was captured and tortured in Iran's most infamous prison in 2009. Bahari could only identify his primary interrogator by his cologne, which smelled like rosewater.

Stewart may be entering unfamiliar territory, but based on his past accomplishments, he's sure not to disappoint. In the meantime, we'll see how well Oliver handles the reigns at the helm of "The Daily Show."
