Popular Android ROM CyanogenMod 10.1 has been successfully ported to the T-Mobile Snapdragon 600 Samsung Galaxy S4.

"Today was the first day I actually worked on CM for the device. Nearly everything works now :)" said Steve Kondik, lead developer of CyanogenMod.

"About 30 minutes after this screenshot was taken, the base band was made to work as well. All core functions are operational :)" he added.

The screenshot posted on Facebook shows the model number of the T-Mobile Snapdragon Galaxy S4: SGH-M919.

There's some hesitation in the modding community over how much attention CyanogenMod developers will actually put into the Galaxy S4, so this news is good for S4 proponents.

Devs have plenty of work ahead, though, since each carrier typically has their own version of the phone that needs to be modded, and in the future, the American market is likely to get the Exynos 5 Octa version of the Galaxy S4, which will require a totally new port of the ROM.

Some devs have suggested staying away from the Exynos 5 entirely, since it's only currently available overseas, but if CyanogenMod doesn't take up that task, someone else will eventually. The open nature of the Android platform and the modding community means anyone can build on the work of everyone else.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 1.6GHz eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor or a 1.9GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor (depending on country), 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1920x1080 Full HD AMOLED display at 441 ppi, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video, a 2-megapixel front facing camera, internal storage between 16 and 64GB, an SD card slot that can accommodate an additional 64GB, a polycarbonate body, Smart Pause and floating touch tech and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
