Daniel Radcliffe will play the leading role in an adaptation of Jake Adelstein's "Tokyo Vice"

Deadline is reporting that the Harry Potter star will play Jake Adelstein. The publication stated that that the script will be about "American reporter Adelstein who, while working at the Yomiuri Shinbun newspaper in Tokyo, covered the crime beat and locked horns with yakuza boss Tadamasa Goto, called the "John Gotti of Japan."

The nonfiction book, published in 2009, it is officially described as follows: "At nineteen, Jake Adelstein went to Japan in search of peace and tranquility. What he got was a life of crime... crime reporting, that is, at the prestigious Yomiuri Shinbun. For twelve years of eighty-hour workweeks, he covered the seedy side of Japan, where extortion, murder, human trafficking, and corruption are as familiar as ramen noodles and sake. But when his final scoop brought him face to face with Japan's most infamous yakuza boss-and the threat of death for him and his family-Adelstein decided to step down... momentarily. Then, he fought back."

The film will be directed by Anthony Mandler who has helmed music videos for Rhianna, Jay-Z, and Lana Del Ray and will be adapted by playwright J.T Rogers. Le Grisbi Productions' John Lesher and Adam Kassan are producing after working on "End of Watch" and are currently preparing Brad Pitt's "Fury" and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's "Birdman." They were also behind "Blood Ties" which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

After playing Harry Potter, Radcliffe has been seen in "The Woman in Black." He was recently seen at the Sundance Film Festival where he wowed audiences and critics for his portrayal as Allen Ginsberg in "Kill Your Darlings." He will also be seen in "The F Word" and "Horns." The actor has also sign on to do an untitled Frankenstein project.

"Tokyo Vice" is set to begin shooting early 2014.
