Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is out today, and there's a launch trailer to prove it. Granted, I'm not going believe this is a real thing until I've played through the entire game (maybe twice), and spent a few hours scratching my head and pondering whether it was awesome or completely insane (probably both).

The game takes place in a campy 80s inspired sci-fi setting. It stars Sergeant Rex Power Colt, a "Mark IV Cyber Commando," fighting for humanity's survival in a post-apocalyptic 2007.

Ubisoft describes it as "an 80s VHS vision of the future," and that's pretty evident from this trailer. There's plenty of neon flavored explosions, lasers, dinosaurs, cyborgs, and even an evil snake apparently.

Give that trailer a watch below.

Blood Dragon is a standalone game using Far Cry 3's gameplay and engine. The game was first rumored in March when it appeared on a Brazilian Ratings site. Purported Xbox Live Arcade artwork was found soon after, followed by a list of achievements. However, on April 1, Ubisoft revealed a teaser website, which caused many people to believe it was an elaborate April Fools Joke.

If it's not obvious by now though, the April 1 announcement was just a bit of bad (or hilarious) timing, and the game is very much real. It was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and is available now on the PlayStation 3's PlayStation Network, the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade, and on the PC through digital distribution.

Here's the official description:

"The year is 2007. It is the future. Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war and new paths for peace must be found. A U.S. cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bioweapon on a distant island. A Mark IV Cyber Commando, Sergeant Rex Power Colt has been sent over to gather information and figure out what the hell is going on."
