In a move that shocked very little, Activision has announced that the latest game in the Call of Duty Franchise is indeed the rumored Ghosts project. The announcement has been confirmed through Call of Duty's Twitter. In addition, the Facebook page for Ghosts also advertises that the game will be shown off at the next-gen Xbox reveal May 21, Indictating that the game will indeed be appearing on the next gen Xbox at least.

Infinity Ward, the original developers of the franchise, have released an image of a skull-like ghost face. While there may not be a whole lot of details about the game so far, that is expected to change in the coming weeks. It was rumored that Call of Duty's next entry would be a fourth entry into the Modern Warfare series, but it appears they are going into a new, unknown direction. Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin had this to say about the move to Gamespot:

"Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we're not resting on our laurels...We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we're building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can't wait to share them with our community."

Though the game was hinted at through several different leaks, now retailers are putting the game up for preorder with reprisal from Activision. Gamestop's preorder page for the game is promoting an unknown bonus for the game, most likely a limited edition poster or DLC content. Amazon is also listing the game for preorder as well. Both sites have the game as coming out on November 5, the same as other leaked promotional material for the game. A release date for the next gen version of the game has not yet been determined, as it is unknown when exactly the PlayStation 4 and next gen Xbox are due to arrive.

Call of Duty games are usually met with much fanfare and hoopla, and Ghosts figures to continue that tradition. Despite the lack of details about the game, fans are eager to find out more about the game and what exactly is the significance of the Ghosts title.
