iPhone 6 Release Date Rumors: June 2014 With A Larger Screen, Says Misek

Apple's next expected overhaul of the iPhone may be coming a lot later than initially accepted, if an analyst's new report is to be believed. 

Jefferies analyst Peter Misek, well known for his musings on upcoming Apple products, has stated that given current market tendencies, Apple is poised to launch a larger-screen iPhone 6 not this year, but around June 2014. 

Misek's comments echo Citigroup Capital Markets' Glen Yeung, who also believes that the iPhone 6 will not debut in 2013. 

"We do NOT expect iPhone 6 (large screen), and remain unclear on low-end iPhone," Yeung stated, referring to a cheaper iPhone model that is expected to help Apple tackle the mid-range market with affordability and more color options.

Nothing about the iPhone 6,which is often is sometimes mistaken for the upcoming iPhone 5S, is known yet, except that it is should feature a major design overhaul. After the launch of the iPhone 5 last year, most expected a more powerful 5S to launch in the first half of 2013, with a redesigned iPhone 6 to help close the second half.

As smartphone consumers are increasingly embracing larger and larger screens, many have expressed interest in seeing an iPhone with a bigger display than the iPhone 5's 4-inch display. By contrast, Samsung's recently-released Galaxy S4 sports a 4.8-inch display, and most new high-profile Android handsets are pushing past 5 inches. 

"We always strive to create the very best display. Some customers value large screen size. Others value other factors such as resolution, color quality, white balance, reflectivity, power consumption, compatibility of apps, portability," Apple CEO Tim Cook said during a conference call earlier this year.

"Competitors have made some significant tradeoffs in many of these areas to ship a larger display. We would not ship a larger display iPhone while these tradeoffs exist."

Apple is also reported to currently be experience supply issues concerning the iPhone 5S and iPad mini 2.
