As the evening of the 4th of July nears, so does the time to observe the traditional but always-impressive fireworks.

Populated U.S. cities such as New York, Washington D.C, Las Vegas and Chicago are taking care of the final details before the fireworks go off and signal America's 236th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Revelers all over the country will be assisting the display of lights either on site, from afar, or even on TV or the internet.

Here are some of the nation's greatest fireworks this year in a nutshell:

New York City - Macy's "Ignite the Night"
Macy's in New York will be hosting what it is already being considered the largest 2012 fireworks show in the nation. Called Macy's "Ignite the Night", the show will feature performances from both Katy Perry and Kenney Chesney.

Washington D.C - Washington Memorial and Lincoln Memorial
Our nation's independence day and fireworks go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly. Every year the majestic Washington Monument is lit up by fireworks launched from the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The spot to view this spectacle is at the National Mall, but be prepared to get there early to beat the crowds of patriots looking to see their nation light up the sky.

Chicacgo - Navy Pier Fireworks
The famous Navy Pier fireworks will take place by Lake Michigan to the Navy Pier website. The fireworks will be synchronized to music and can be viewed from a number of different docks or from onboard an evening cruise. Either way, this is the fireworks display to watch in the Chicago metropolitan area.

Time: 9:00 p.m. CT

Las Vegas - Station Casinos' Fireworks
This year, the fireworks that will go off above Station Casinos all throughout the Las Vegas valley is creating a lot of buzz. Pyrotechnichians from Grucci's of New York have been preparing for the light show for and all of the hard work should be paid off in 9 short-but-fascinating minutes. According to the Las Vegas Sun, Larry Goetz, a producer with Grucci's from New York said, "We want everybody to walk away going 'That's the best show I've ever seen."
