Four children are reportedly dead after a mobile home in South Carolina caught fire Wednesday, local authorities say.

Firefighters discovered the children's bodies after they finished putting out the fire, an official said.

"There is a whole lot of crying here. It's an emotional scene," said Russell Cox, spokesman for the city of Hartsville where the incident took place.

It took about 10 minutes for firefighters to extinguish the fire before the four children were found dead in the burnt interior of the mobile home, according to Cox.

Authorities have not yet released the identities and ages of the victims.

The Darlington County sheriff's office tweeted a photograph of the aftermath of the blaze, showing that the exterior did not seem to suffer as much damage as the charred interior. Children's toys are visible from the exterior of the mobile home as a tricycle sits on the front lawn, as well as smoke still coming out of the front door that was left open for fire hoses.

The fire began on a street lined with mobile homes near Hartsville---a city with a population of about 8,000 people and situated 60 miles east of Columbia, the state capital.
