It almost seems like a bad joke by now, but the SimCity fiasco is somehow still ongoing. Yesterday, the first major patch to the game since launch, Update 2.0, was released with Maxis hoping it would clear up many of the ongoing issues.

Unfortunately, it seems like it's introduced a whole pack of new bugs, as well as some game-ending crashes.

Update 2.0 was supposed to fix ongoing problems with tourism, traffic, casinos, and technical issues with the HUD, audio/video, and sending invitations. While it may have patched up those problems, users on the  EA forums have been causing quite a stir, reporting a sizable number of new bugs that have cropped up as a result of the patch.

Major problems include sewage overloads, an overabundance of taxis, pollution spikes, road textures disappearing, and hilariously, phantom noises such as trees making siren sounds. Other issues include fire trucks ignoring fires, buildings burning but not turning to rubble, and workers entering buildings that have been destroyed.

Even worse though are reported instances of cities reverting to older saves, and the recently reintroduced Cheetah Mode slowing production. In the most severe cases, some of these bugs are causing full game crashes.

Reddit user Imidazole0 has compiled a fairly exhaustive list of new bugs that can be found here.

This is obviously a huge pile of bad news for both Electronic Arts and Maxis, who I'm sure were hoping to put all of the bad press behind them. After the absolute travesty of the game's launch, coupled with the studio's delay in fixing the game's laundry list of issues, you'd think they would've gone the extra mile to make sure Update 2.0 went off without a hitch.

Sadly, it looks like the SimCity controversy will continue on; and one has to wonder just how much consumer confidence has dropped in the EA brand after all of this.
