An Ohio indoor tanning salon turned away a customer for being overweight.

Kelly McGrevey already bought a month-long tanning package at Aloha Tanning before she was told just the next day that she was too fat to tan.

"He said, 'Sorry, but I'm not going to let you tan today because we've just implemented a new policy where anyone over 230 pounds can't go in one of our beds,' " McGrevey said.

"I was just so shocked and embarrassed and humiliated."

On the first day that McGrevey made use of the tanning salon, it was inside a standup-style booth. But when she came back the next day, the standup was broken and that is when salon staff told her she was not allowed to use the traditional bed because she is overweight.

"He asked if I was aware of how many times he had to replace the acrylic on those beds because of heave people?" she said about the employee who turned her away. McGrevey does not know that staffers name.

"It really upset me. It's discrimination," McGrevey said.

And if what happened wasn't upsetting enough for McGrevey.

The salon also denied a refund for the package that she paid almost $70 for.

"He said, 'No, we don't give refunds," she recounted.

And that is when McGrevey called the police department to file a report against the salon's owner-Justin Hileman.

As it turns out, the Akron Better Business Bureau gave the Aloha tanning salon an F rating because the company failed to respond to a complaint filed with the agency within the past year.

But a salon representative said that the company refunded McGrevey's purchase, but she says the money has not showed up on her account.

Tanning bed manufacturers do set weight restrictions on their products because the acrylic layer that fits over the bulbs that emit ultraviolet radiation may crack under pressure.

The authorities have not been involved further regarding the incident and told McGrevey to call them if she returns, which she hasn't yet, and they refuse service.
