Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, the country's first commander of the International Space Station, is the inspiration for the newly launched interactive space school website created by the National Film Board of Canada, or NFB, called NFB Space School.
The site is intended to educate children about space and the astronaut himself with interactive facets incorporated into the site.
"Melding mankind's millennial fascination with space with cutting-edge interactive technologies, NFB Space School will launch with 2 modules-Mission and Leadership-featuring exclusive footage of Chris Hadfield, interactive videos and quizzes," NFB posted on their blog.
"Shortly thereafter, more modules on subjects such as astronomy, history and astrobiology will be added to the site."
And to commemorate the site's debut on the Internet today, Hadfield participated in a question-and-answer session, in collaboration with Halifax's Discovery Center and the Canadian Space Agency, where he answered questions from students and the media.
Aside from his affiliation with the Space School site, Hadfield is well known for his web presence on social media sites, conducting various experiments from the ISS like displaying what happens when a wet towel is wrung out in space in zero gravity.
And the astronaut even teamed up with Barenaked Ladies singer Ed Robertson to record a song from the ISS as part of a program to raise awareness of both music education and the space program.
