The rumored Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection for the PlayStation 3 has been confirmed by Konami, and will include eight games in the collection spanning the entirety of the existing Metal Gear franchise. Originally teased by the creator of the franchise, Hideo Kojima, many fans wondered how many games would be included in the special collectors item, and now it would appear to have more than most would have anticipated.
The collection will have the original Metal Gear Solid, along with HD editions of Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, and Peace Walker. The original Metal Gear 1 and 2 were included in the HD edition of Metal Gear Solid 3, bringing the total in the Legacy Collection to 6. Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions and Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition round out the collection of games. This is not a complete collection, however, as several handheld games in the franchise are left out, but the main storyline spanning several console generations is available in the collection. In addition to the games, two digital graphic novels by Ashley Wood will be part of the package. No word yet on how much the bundle will be, but it should cost gamers quite a bit to have all eight games available and part of their own collection.
Konami president Tomoyuki Tsuboi had this to say about the announcement:
"We wanted to give Metal Gear Solid fans the opportunity to experience the series from beginning to end, all on one console...With the collection's multiple titles, players can truly see how Metal Gear Solid evolved into the critically acclaimed and beloved franchise it is today."
Konami has yet to announce when the games will become available, but it may coincide with the release of the games that will make up metal Gear Solid 5, Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain.
