SimCity is due to receive it's first major upgrade to version 2.0, allowing for several gameplay tweaks and bug fixes that will take the game offline for several hours. The update will take place on April 22 according to the announcement made on EA forums.

"Choosing a time to issue a major update is never easy, but after looking our peak player time, we've concluded 1 p.m. PDT is the best window for us to make these improvements," EA said.

The update to version 2.0 will help out players in many ways. It will allows the Mayor of the city to move about in fancy cars, limos, sport cars or even a helicopter if they are present during the Mayor's trip to work. It will also enable a color correction when the game is in colorblind mode. Other bug fixes include fixing some cities not processing, and speeding up invites, both sent and received. Other changes include stopping tourists from unexpectedly flooding the streets, and making casinos more profitable by working on the gambling aspect within them. These are just a few of the fixes that come with the update, and the full list of changes can be seen in the EA forum post.

SimCity is getting it's first big overhaul after the game's epic failure at launch, in which players were unable to connect to the game's servers, and thus unable to play the game due to the always online requirement of the game. Those problems are behind EA and Maxis, and now they can focus on gameplay fixes to streamline the game.

It is unclear how long the game will be shut down on April 22, but it is expected to be for a least a few hours. Hopefully it will go smoothly for the game, which desperately needs to stay on track to keep from becoming a joke.
