Developers are getting a look at the new BlackBerry 10.1C SDK (build 10.1.0.1483), which means the rest of us get a preview of changes coming to the next update of BlackBerry 10.

They include an HDR camera mode, PIN-to-PIN messaging and easier text selection.

High-dynamic range photos are a relatively recent fad that purport to show a more realistic view of scenery and lighting. While many outdoor photos end up looking washed out, our just don't capture that sense of "being there," HDR photos tend to have higher contrast and more vibrant colors. They either look more real or too Instagram-y, depending on whom you ask. Either way, you'll have the option.

BlackBerry 10.1 sees the return of PIN-to-PIN messaging, which allows individual BlackBerry phones to send messages directly through RIM's network to other BlackBerry phones, bypassing internet or email services.

It works even if the phone doesn't have a data connection, but it is dependent on RIM having its network up.

The full list of changes:

* HDR option for taking photos
* PIN to PIN messaging now available and present in the BlackBerry Hub
* APN editing is now enabled (Though this may remain carrier based)
* 'Highlights" for text such as word correction on the keyboard are now green, instead of blue
* 'Text Picker' has been improved, now allows for easily moving left and right between letters easier
* Sharing menu is now black, just like on the BlackBerry Q10
* New help demos and walkthroughs after initial boot
* Select All for broadcast messages is now available
* Ability to turn off alerts for specific applications
* Easier to check for updates in BlackBerry World
* Phone can be fully unlocked at lock screen now by the power button
* BlackBerry World now has options for coupon redemption
* Pasting of phone numbers directly into dialpad
* Installed apps can be opened from with BlackBerry World (No longer shows 'installed' now shows 'open')
