The BlackBerry Q10 seems set for an Apr. 30 debut in Canada, but the U.S. release date is still up in the air. Now the device has shown up at the Federal Communications Commission, so the wait may not be much longer.

Of course, passing inspection at the FCC is a necessary but not sufficient condition for release in the United States, so there's no telling exactly how long BlackBerry may hold off before making its first BlackBerry 10 phone with a physical keyboard available stateside.

The American release is scheduled for sometime in the second quarter of this year, which means April, May or June. It will definitely be after the Canadian release, so that leave May and June, and BlackBerry is probably hoping to delay long enough to get past the glut of high-end release dates hitting in the next few weeks.

The HTC One appears later this week, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 rolls out over the two weeks after that.

While the all-touch BlackBerry Z10 has performed admirably in the United States, selling well over a million devices, BlackBerry likely doesn't want to go head-to-head with the heavy hitters of the industry, especially when it's trying to break back into a market dominated by Apple and Samsung.

The next iPhone will probably drop sometime late next month, so that leaves a relatively narrow window for the Q10, expect it in mid-to-late May.

The BlackBerry Q10 features a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 plus processor, 2GB of RAM, a 3.1-inch 720x720 touchscreen display, an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video, 16GB of internal storage, an SD card slot for up to another 64GB of storage, a full physical QWERTY keyboard and runs the newly revamped BlackBerry 10 operating system.
