Talk about a short-lived series as the CW pulls "Cult" after airing only seven episodes. Show creator Rockne S. O'Bannon confirms the now inevitable fate of the show on Twitter. "Sadly true," O'Bannon tells "Cult" fans. No series is ever guaranteed longevity, but one has to wonder why this show did not take off the ground? They did a pretty good job of promoting it as many who tune into the network would see promos for the show that made you ask yourself what it would be about. Even Rockne has a bit of trouble understanding the reasoning behind the cancellation as he heard great praises from the higher ups at CW. "CW Execs once called the last 5 episodes 'outstanding,'" he adds. "I guess too outstanding."

The show followed investigative journalist Jeff Sefton played by "The Vampire Diaries" former cast member, Matt Davis. Upon the mysterious disappearance of his younger brother, Sefton began looking into a popular television show his brother once watched - ironically called "Cult." Now taking his brother's paranoia about the show seriously, Jeff joins forces with a research assistant on the show who is looking for answers herself into the disappearance of her father. From the sound of things, there were many twists and turns in this show that might have made it a little too mysterious for viewers.

According to reports, the show did not do so well in the ratings department on its February 19 premiere (only took in a reported 900,000 viewers). With ratings continuing to decline, the network made the decision in March to move "Cult" from Tuesday night to Friday night giving their spot to "Beauty and the Beast." Unfortunately the show never took off and as a result - got a pink slip from the network. Reruns of "The Carrie Diaries" will take its place before the premiere of the new CW show, "Oh Sit." There remains no word on what the network plans to do with the remaining un-aired episodes.

One has to wonder if Matt Davies will earn a spot back on "The Vampire Diaries" as their current plot leaves the door open for the dead to walk again. Could Alaric come back?
