After Dom Del Torto discovered that his laptop was stolen from his apartment in the U.K., he was even more shocked to learn that it wound up in Iran just one month later.

Del Torto, a London-based animator, said he couldn't believe that after his Macbook Pro ended up in Tehran, Iran in March after it was stolen on February 4.  He used the tracking software Hidden App to  locate his computer and take pictures of the new people using it along with screengrabs of what they're doing online.

Even with the photos, there was little the U.K. police could do for Del Torto being that the computer was now far outside their jurisdiction, so he started a Tumblr blog called "Dom's laptop is in Iran" to share his ironic story and pictures of the laptop's alleged thieves online.

Eventually, his Tumblr and unique story went viral and the new owners contacted him after discovering photos of themselves posted online.

"They were very upset," Deltorto writes. "I could understand why. The people shown on the blog site are not thieves. "

They were mortified being that they were not the people who had stolen the laptop.

On Friday, Del Torto posted two new entries, explaining what happened and apologizing for his behavior.

"The safety and well being of private individuals is more important than any possession, although I still miss my laptop I do not wish ill on anyone," he wrote.

In his second and so far latest post, he wrote that, "given the huge error of judgement on my part in sharing the story and failing to respect their privacy I have asked them to keep it by means of an apology."
