President Obama will be touring the city of Colorado Springs on Friday as he is scheduled to visit the fire-hit sites just after local noon time.
The Waldo Canyon fire has already become Colorado's most destructive fire in history destroying 346 homes and prompting evacuations of 36,000 people.
As of Friday morning, the fire was 15 percent contained and according to firefighting officials at a news conference, Friday's weather should come as aid to the battling of fires the way it did on Thursday.
The burned down area has been reconfirmed to 16,750 acres and one death and one injury have been confirmed.
Fires Across the Nation
According to Reuters, there are approximately 40 large fires that are burning across various states including Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, South Dakota, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Hawaii and Colorado.
Three main fires in Colorado, namely the High Park, Flagstaff and Waldo Canyon fires had burned approximately 106,000 acres of land by Wednesday, June 27, and according to the U.S. Forest service, full-containment is predicted for mid-July.
By Thursday night, the mandatory evacuations were lifted for the areas west of I-25 and south of Rockrimmon which is good news for some who finally have the opportunity to return to their homes.
The City of Colorado Springs made new announcements on the mandatory evacuations and lifts on Friday morning June 28 (8:00 a.m.).
The announcements are as follow.
Residents in these neighborhoods can return home:
-Southeast area of Rockrimmon including Golden Hills and Tammaron subdivisions (southeast of Woodmen Rd./Rockrimmon Blvd. to S. Rockrimmon)
-Pine Cliff
-Kissing Camels (East of 30th street from Gateway Road to Garden of the Gods Road)
-Holland Park
-Pleasant Valley
-The apartment complex at Garden of the Gods Rd. and 30th Street.
All other areas remain under Mandatory Evacuation:
-Cedar Heights
-West of 30th Street from Gateway Road to Centennial
-Pinon Valley
-Mountain Shadows
-Perregrine
-Rockrimmon (northwest of Woodmen Rd./Rockrimmon Blvd. and Vindicator)
