For months, questions have lingered over who Benedict Cumberbatch's character in "Star Trek Into Darkness" truly was. Khan has been a popular candidate, but there has been no confirmation from the cast or crew. However, one source claims that Cumberbatch's John Harrison is none other than Khan.

According to Shockya, "He is called John Harrison at points in the film, but during a key scene where Harrison is held prisoner on the Enterprise, he does reveal to Kirk and crew that his true identity is Khan."  The publication also indicates that the noted reactor scene in "Star Trek III: The Wrath of Khan" will be referenced in the new movie, but will be altered.

The actors have endlessly turned down this rumor time and again, but Cumberbatch let it slip months ago that he was playing an "iconic character." "Yep, it's yet another thing I can't talk about," he told Short List. "I'll tell you this, it's iconic and it's exciting. I'm bored of denying that it's Khan now, because people keep saying it."

It is possible that the cast and crew are trying to create a diversion the way that Christopher Nolan did with "The Dark Knight Rises." Many questioned whether Marion Cotillard would play the role of Talia Al-Ghul. The actress repeatedly denied this assumption, but it was eventually revealed that she was in fact Talia.

Simon Pegg recently revealed in an interview with Empire Magazine that the film was "a modern take on terrorism in a way. It looks at why Benedict is doing what he's doing. There are motives that make you think he's not a bad guy and alliances form. All the time we're being puppeteered by this John Harrison, even Kirk falls for it. He manipulates us as much as the audience."
