The French Davis Cup team's chances of winning the 2013 Davis Cup got a little grimmer after an ankle injury forced Richard Gasquet to sit out of Friday's tennis quarterfinal event.
Replacing him will be Gilles Simon, No.13-ranked in the world, Tennis World USA.org reported.
In light of the injury, French team captain Arnaud Clement gave the update on Gasquet's condition and expressed confidence that Gilles will be able to come through to victory.
"The most important thing is that Gilles is in great form and feeling confident," Clement told a news conference.
"Everyone was expecting Richard given his early season results but he is still feeling pain in his ankle."
Simon is a pretty formidable foe, having reached the quarter finals in four of his last five ATP events. He will take that skill and match it up against Argentine No.1 Juan Monaco in the second match at Parque Roca.
But before that takes place, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will be facing Carlos Belocq in the first match in France. Meanwhile, David Nalbandian and Horacio Zeballos will square off in doubles action against Julein Benneteau and Michael Llodra.
