Benedict Cumberbatch is the latest actor to join Guillermo del Toro's haunted house thriller  "Crimsen Peak."

The actor joins a cast that also includes Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam. Plots details have not been revealed as del Toro and Lucinda Coxon are working through a rewrite after del Toro and Matthew Robins originally penned it.

The role marks another major part for Cumberbatch, whose schedule is packed of late. He will star in five films this year including the blockbuster film "Star Trek: Into Darkness" and "August Osage County" with Meryl Streep, Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, and Julia Roberts. He will also star in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" and in Steve McQueen's "Twelve Years A Slave" which is rumored to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. He will also portray Julian Assange in the Wikileaks biopic "The Fifth Estate." The actor was last seen in "War Horse" "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy."

Del Toro is currently finishing up his new film "Pacific Rim" which is slated for the summer. He is currently in pre-production for "Pinocchio," and "Hellboy 3." He last directed 2008's "Hellboy 2:The Golden Army."

Stone was last seen in "Gangster Squad" and voiced the role of Eep in "The Croods." She is currently working the "Amazing Spider-Man 2." Hunnam will next be seen in "Pacific Rim and currently stars in the TV show "Sons of Anarchy."

Legendary Pictures will produce and be a participating financing partner on "Crimson Peak, with Universal Pictures retaining an option to finance at a later date. The film is set to begin shooting in February 2014.
