The latest market share figures from the United Kingdom show positive news for Apple, Google, and Microsoft mobile platforms.

Sitting as the king of the mobile operating system race is Android. In the last three months ending in February, the Google platform saw an increase by 10 percent compared to the same months a year ago. Android's market share accounted for 58.3 percent, up from 48.3 percent.

Apple placed second but saw their market share numbers increase as well. The iOS platform went up to 29 percent.

The companies witnessing the best news, however, are Microsoft, Nokia and HTC. Microsoft's Windows Phone platform numbers are significantly low compared to Android and iOS, but it is up from three percent compared to the previous year. The Windows Phone sales garnered 6.7 percent.

Utilizing the Windows Phone platform are Nokia and HTC. According to the latest figures, provided by Kantar Worldpanel, Nokia saw gains in their smartphone sales with 5.6 percent of the market. Credit to Nokia's numbers was given to Windows Phone 8 for "appealing to consumers."

The top smartphone brand in Great Britain, however, is Samsung with 36.2 percent, sufficient enough to edge out Apple's 29.0 percent.

Is there hope for BlackBerry in the future?

"The launch of the BlackBerry Z10 has not resulted in an immediate turn around for the Canadian company in Great Britain," said Kantar Worldpanel ComTech Global Consumer Insight Director Dominic Sunnebo. "Although the new model received great reviews, it's going to take time for BlackBerry to see share gains. Consumers just don't have the same levels of pent up demand for the handset as they did for the iPhone 5."

Traveling across the pond to the United States, Android and iOS also dominate with a combined share of 94.7 percent, and Windows Phone is seeing a similar increase in use. Microsoft's platform broke past the 4 percent mark. The Nokia Lumia 920, which utilizes Windows Phone 8, was credited for the increase in U.S. market share figures.
