BlackBerry has gone out of its way to integrate messaging and social media into the user experience of the BlackBerry Z10. But users who aren't careful may end up sharing more than they intend to.
The Z10 has a handy "show what I'm listening to" feature that automatically posts a status update when you play a video or listen to a song, similar to the ubiquitous updates in you Facebook News Feed from Spotify telling you exactly what melancholy playlist your heartbroken friends are listening to right now.
It's off by default, but plenty of people are eager to share their taste in media. But they may not realize the feature broadcasts everything they play, including videos they may nit want to advertise.
A user in the CrackBerry forum posted a screenshot from one of their contacts that listed embarrassing info like "listening to pornhub.com," a video streaming site for pornography easily accessible on mobile phones.
There's no danger of having a friend's odd fetishes assail your eyes, as only the title of the video or song is shown, according to BlackBerry, but plenty of videos out there have titles even more embarrassing than simply the name of a website.
"The 'update your status' feature is off by default, so users would need to choose to turn this on. Also, users are not sharing content to other users, they are only sharing the title of what is being played," a spokesperson for BlackBerry told Mashable.
The BlackBerry Z10 features a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 plus processor, 2GB of RAM, a 4.2-inch 1280x768 display, an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video, 16GB of internal storage, an SD card slot and runs the newly revamped BlackBerry 10 operating system.
