This weekend Universal will re-release the 1993 hit "Jurassic Park" in 3D.
The film, starring Sam Neill and Laura Dern, is about theme park that suffers a major power breakdown that allows its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run amok.
After 20 years the film continues to dazzle critics with the Chicago Tribune stating "The characters aren't much more well-defined than the anonymous victims of a teen horror movie... The dinosaur effects, however, are absolutely stunning, and sometimes so natural that one even forgets to be impressed."
The Village Voice also liked it and stated "That T. rex is worth the wait, but the wait itself is even more memorable."
Slant Magazine was also amazed at how well it held up after so many years and stated "Now a 20-year-old antique slapped with a superfluous 3D transfer, Jurassic Park still has the power to amaze."
The Baltimore Sun stated "A brilliant and dynamic piece of popular movie making, Jurassic Park has a lot more bite than bark."
When the film was released in 1993, "Jurassic Park" became the highest grossing film, director Steven Spielberg ever made. It also won three Academy Awards for Sound categories and visual effects.
Spielberg last directed "Lincoln" for which he was nominated for an Oscar. He also directed "War Horse" and The Avdentures of Tintin." He is currently developing the sequel to Tintin and a new sci-fi film "Roboapocalypse."
Neill was last seen in "The Vow" with Channing Tatum and "The Hunter" with Willem Dafoe. Dern last appeared in "The Master," "Little Fockers," and "Everything Must Go."
Universal will release the "Jurassic Park" in 2,600 theaters and is rated PG-13 for intense science fiction terror.
