Apple is preparing for the next Mac operating system update with OS X 10.8.4.

On Monday, Apple started to distribute OS X 10.8.4 beta to developers. Although Apple gave little information about build 12E27, it is available at appleseed.apple.com.

According to Apple Insider, people familiar with the beta OS X stated the new build doesn't appear to show any need for developers to focus on. Similar to the OS X 10.8.3 betas, Apple is asking developers to check OS X 10.8.4 beta's Wi-Fi, Graphic Drivers, and Safari components.

The beta release comes about two weeks after Apple launched OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3. The Mac update included over a dozen fixes, enhancements, and improvements, such as:

- A fix for an issue that may cause audio to stutter on 2011 iMacs

- A fix for an issue that may cause the desktop picture to change after logging out or restarting

- A fix for an issue in Messages that may cause messages to appear out of order after waking from sleep

- A fix for an issue that may cause the screen to display incorrectly after waking from sleep

The OS X Mountain Lion version 10.8.3 is the first major update following version 10.8.2 in Oct. 5 last year.

Before installing the new operating system update, Apple suggests users to back up their systems. If Apple customers have not been notified of the update, they can click on the Apple () menu and select "Software Update."
