Less than six months after the San Francisco Giants closed the book on the final Major League Baseball game of the 2012 season with a World Series victory, the chase for the 2013 World Series begins again where it always does-Opening Day.

The first of 162 grueling games from spring to fall will kick off the 2013 regular season for MLB teams around North America Monday as Opening Day 2013 brings baseball fans back to the stands and their TVs. And there isn't any shortage of big time baseball action on Monday as things get kicked off with baseball's hottest and most storied rivalry when the New York Yankees host their American League East rival the Boston Red Sox at Yankees Stadium.

The Yankees are fresh off a disappointing sweep by the Detroit Tigers in the American League Championship Series and would love to give closer and future Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera one last chance at a World Series ring in his final season. But they will have to go past a motivated Red Sox squad, who are looking to rebound from a dismal season last year.

Later in the day, the defending World Series Champion San Francisco Giants start the defense of their world championship with a game against the L.A. Dodgers. The American League Champion Detroit Tigers, who just signed pitching ace Justin Verlander to the richest pitching deal in MLB history, also look to start the season off on the right foot when they play sluggers Justin Morneau, Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins

And the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will debut a Murderer's Row-like lineup with the addition of superstar slugger Josh Hamilton whehn they play the Cincinnati Reds.
