With nine games remaining, Manchester United currently holds a solid 15 point lead on the top spot in the English premier league.

At this point, the team can grab a maximum of 101 points and would surpass the record of 95 points set by Chelsea back in 2005.

"We will drop points," admitted Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. "It is a tough league. But all the rest will drop points too. The record is 95 points by Chelsea. Ours is 92."

'If we get to 95 points I would be absolutely delighted," he added. "That would be a fantastic season. If we do get to that position, we have probably won the league."

Ferguson's cautious approach is reasonable considering how the team blew an eight point lead in the final six matches last season against Manchester City.

Ferguson said: "I expected it to be really tight. The first point was that after last season, we wanted to make sure we didn't lose it on goal difference, and that has improved markedly. "But I never thought we would be 15 points clear at this stage of the season."

"You are never sure until you have the trophy in your hands," added United's Nemanja Vidic. "I do think about last season. It is still fresh. If we hadn't experienced that people would be saying it is already done. But that kind of thing keeps you sharp."

The team's next step is a battle with Sunderland on Saturday. On the final day of the season a year ago, United defeated Sunderland but heard the crowd respond with cheers to let them know that Manchester City had won the title. "It was a horrible experience and what happened at Sunderland has motivated us all season," Chris Smalling told The Sun.

United already took down Sunderland 3-1 back on Dec. 15, but a victory in Sunderland would be all the more enjoyable; especially with the squad stuck in the bottom of the standings and trying to avoid relegation.

Prediction: United exact vengeance in a 5-0 rout.
