Matthew McConaughey has been offered the lead role in Christopher Nolan's new film "Interstellar."
Deadline reported that Nolan offered the role of Cooper to McConaughey. The actor has not signed any contracts or deals yet but based on the actor's latest films, he may end up taking the role.
McConaughey has reinvented himself throughout the past year after appearing in numerous acclaimed films. He starred in "Magic Mike" for which he garnered numerous awards. He also starred in Richard Linklater's "Bernie," and "Killer Joe." McConaughey is currently promoting his new film "Mud" and will next be seen in Martin Scorsese's "Wolf of wall Street" and "Dallas Buyers Club."
No details have yet to be revealed on the project. According to the Guardian the film will portray a group of space travelers that journey through a wormhole. The is currently being rewritten by Nolan's brother Jonathan.
"Interstellar" has been in production for a few years and previously had other major directors attached to it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steven Spielberg was once slated to direct the film, and it is unclear if he remains attached to it in any capacity. The film was originally in production through Paramount Studios but since Nolan has a contract with Warner Bros., the film would be a joint venture by the two studios.
"Interstellar" is slated to start shooting later this year and will open in theaters on November 27, 2014.
