BioShock Infinite has finally hit the shelves today, and eager PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC gamers have already begun discovering all the secrets the the flying city of Columbia has to offer. BioShock Infinite promises to offer players a resounding story that is both powerful and emotional.
Indeed, some of the game's religious overtones nearly caused an employee of Irrational Games to quit, so players can expect a fairly weighty experience playing the game. Early reactions from critics have been overwhelmingly positive, with reviewers noting that the story is one of the best video game plots of this generation of consoles.
Players assume the role of Booker Dewitt, a former private eye who is charged with retrieving a women from a floating city. Over the course of the game, Booker will have to deal with futuristic technologies and the reality-tearing power of the women he is sent to rescue, Elizabeth. Players will have to find a way to get free of the diseased isolationism that plagues Columbia and find their way off the city in the sky. Players can use a combination of traditional weapons and "vigors", which give the players extraordinary powers such as the ability to control fire. Also in play is Elizabeth, who instead of fleeing or getting in the way like many A.I controlled partners, actively helps the player by grabbing ammo and opening up rifts in reality.
As previously stated, critics have been heaping praise on the game, so interested parties should be quick to snatch up the game. Indeed, when one of the few complaints critics have about the game is that some fights break the feeling of immersion they had, you have got a special game on your hands. BioShock Infinite is available right now through major video game retailers.
