Gameplay footage from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag has been revealed in a new trailer ahead of an October release date.

The preview really focuses on the ship-to-ship combat in this installment, which will hopefully play out as a more polished, nuanced version of the similar feature in Assassin's Creed III. Although the ship battle aspect was much of the trailer's focus, the traditional Assassin's Creed combat mechanics look as fluid as ever, albeit with a lot more guns.

Give the trailer a watch below.

Ubisoft has also unveiled the game's obligatory pre-order bonuses. In North America, gamers who pre-order the game at GameStop will receive the "Black Island Pack" which includes an additional treasure-hunting quest, an exclusive ship, and "Captain Morgan" items for use in singleplayer and multiplayer modes.

In Europe, no less than four versions of Assassin's Creed IV are being released. The Black Chest Edition  will be exclusive to the Uplay store, and comes with a model of Edward Kenway on the bow of his ship, a parchment world map, a replica of the Black Flag, a steelbook case, an artbook, a soundtrack, two lithographs, two canvas prints, and additional in-game content.

The Buccaneer Edition, exclusive to Game in the UK and GameStop in Ireland, will feature the Edward Kenway model, artbook, soundtrack, the two lithographs, a collector's box, and unannounced in-game content.

The Skull Edition will be available at a number of retailers, and will include a jumbo steelbook, the artbook, soundtrack, lithographs, and in-game equipment.

If you're still with me, the fourth and hopefully final edition, the Special Edition, will be available through Game in the UK and XtraVision in Ireland, and will contain "exclusive content."

Additionally, both North American and European gamers on the PlayStation 3 or 4 versions of the title will have access to around 60 minutes of exclusive singleplayer missions.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will launch on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii U this October.
