This weekend HBO will premiere "Phil Spector" on March 24th.
The film, starring Helen Mirren and Al Pacino, centers on the relationship between Phil Spector and defense attorney Linda Kenney Baden while the music business legend was on trial for the murder of Lana Clarkson.
The film has received good reviews with the San Francisco Chronicle stating "Mamet is very much on his game in Phil Spector, but so is every member of his cast, including Al Pacino as Spector and Helen Mirren as attorney Linda Kenny Baden: Watching these two titans of acting work is half the fun."
Entertainment Weekly also gave the film top scores stating "The film costars an on-form Helen Mirren as Linda Kenney Baden, one of Spector's real-life defense attorneys.... Pacino too is excellent."
The Hollywood Reporter was also positive and said "Even though the movie is loaded with enough to satisfy those who believe Spector did it, as Mirren's role is written and Pacino's performance hints at, the film seems eager to suggest Spector was found guilty mostly of being a freak. That have-it-both-ways storytelling doesn't make Phil Spector a great legal movie, but it allows two exceptional actors and a talented writer a chance to play with reality."
The film was directed by two time Academy Award nominee David Mamet. Mamet also directed the TV show "The Unit" and the films "Heist" and "Spartan"
Mirren last starred in "Hitchcock" for which she received a BAFTA and Golden Globe nomination. She next reprises her role as Victoria in "Red 2" and voices Dean Hardscrabble in "Monsters University." Pacino last won a Golden Globe for "You Don't Know Jack." He also starred in "Stand Up Guys" and "The Son of No One." He will next be seen in "Imagine" and "King Lear."
The film premieres at 9pm.
