Megan Crafton, 22-year-old cheerleading coach of an Indianapolis high school, on Thursday pleaded not guilty on charges of seducing a 17-year-old boy from the school where she works.

Crafton was arrested last week after she turned herself to authorities and has been released on bond with the help of her lawyer G. Allen Lidy on the same day she was arrested.

The incident which got Crafton behind bars was performing oral sex on a boy from the school’s basketball team which she confirmed to the police. The act took place in Crafton’s vehicle parked at a Shelbyville grocery store parking lot in January.

Lidy’s reason to plead not guilty for Megan Crafton was that, “She wasn’t his coach. She wasn’t his teacher. She wasn’t his teacher’s assistant.”

In Indiana, it is legal for adults to conduct sexual activity with someone between the ages of 16 and 18, except in cases where their jobs hold authority or supervision over them.

"We wouldn't be having this conversation if it was her and some other gentleman who doesn't go to the school, or isn't part of the school system,” a lieutenant at the Shelbyville Police Department Michael Turner told Fox Sports.

“Unfortunately in this case, it was and it made it illegal. When she signed on as an assistant cheerleading coach, she took a responsibility that she wouldn't have relations at that school," he continued.

The court set a jury trial for Crafton scheduled on September 24.
