'The Host' World Premiere: Director Andrew Niccol's Says "The Host" is Different From Twilight; Actor Jake Abel Says No Shirtless Men in the Film

On March 19^th the stars of the new film "The Host" aligned for the world premiere of the film.

A blue carpet was rolled out along Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood on Monday to celebrate the premiere, the film adaptation of Stephanie Meyer's latest book. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger, Max Iron and Jake Abel, the film tells the story of an unseen enemy that threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories. Melanie will risk everything to protect the people she cares most about, proving that love can conquer all in a dangerous new world.

Before the screening, Niccol invited his cast and the author Meyer onstage for a brief introduction, attempting to explain the complicated nature of the relationships in the film. Niccol stated that "Philosophically, it's a great story." He added "It's more than just romantic love, which is what Stephenie has done before. It's about a greater love. It's about whether we can co-exist amongst ourselves, and even with a species from another actress."

During the premiere the director joked that this film was different from "Twilight" Meyer's previous novels because there are no shirtless men. Actor Abel explained "Here's the thing, I said I would take my shirt off if it was written in a scene that made sense and the scene that it was supposed to be in, it was just weird. It was like, I'm threshing wheat, I stop, look at her and take my shirt off because I'm hot all of a sudden, then go back to threshing wheat. It didn't work, so we didn't do it." The actor continued "I think I promised Stephenie that if we get a sequel, I have to do it, no matter what-which I instantly regret."

Director Niccol also added that he was interested in doing the sequel to the film. He stated "I'd love to be involved in the sequel...It's supposed to be a trilogy. But Stephenie needs to start writing these books!"

Meyer is currently at work with her second and third novel to the trilogy. "The Host" will be released on March 29^th by Open Road Films.
