An article on VGLeaks may have leaked screenshots for installing the dev kit for the next-gen Xbox's Durango XDK hard drive. These screens go through installing the dev kit, as well as reveal some requirements the newest Xbox will have, if these screens are indeed legitimate.
The bug item that the screen reveals is that the next Xbox will indeed force players to always connect online, something that has been heavily rumored for the next-gen Xbox. Also interesting is that it appears that Durango will install games fully on the hard drive, with the disc used only after installation.
If this is true, then it would be further proof that the next-gen Xbox will not allow used games to be played on the system. By having the game always connected to one system or account, their can be an activation code that will "lock" that person's games to their own personal system. Even trying to borrow a game would not work under this system of online checks for games.
However, there is no proof that the information gathered by these screenshots is true, or that the screenshots themselves are not faked or photoshopped. But if everything shown is indeed true, then this will sound a resounding death keel for Xbox owners who primarily buy used games. The company seems committed to going forward with the plan to force gamers to buy new, through these activation keys and digital-only sales.
With Microsoft going one direction, and Sony hinting that they will allow used games to work on their upcoming PlayStation 4, this may becoming a deciding factor when it comes to what next-gen system to buy. The next-gen Xbox is slated to be revealed at the end of April.
