Grand Theft Auto 5 may be several months away, but that has not stopped the game from becoming one of the most wanted games in Japan.

Gaming Everything has a list of the most anticipated games yet to be released, and Grand Theft Auto 5 is sitting at the number 13 position on the chart, ahead of such titles as Pikmin 3 and Final Fantasy Versus 13. This is significant because Grand Theft Auto 5, along with The Last of Us at number 20 on the list, are the only western-developed games on the list.

This is a huge achievement for the UK-based Rockstar North, and shows the immense popularity the series commands. Surely, as the game approaches its release date on September 17, the game will continue to climb the most anticipated chart, not only in Japan but worldwide. Indeed, the series is so popular that fans are already building a database of locations and characters that will appear in the new game. Part of the reason the new entries in the series get so much excitement is that Take-Two and Rockstar refuse to make the series into franchises like Madden or Assassin's Creed and release new games annually or biannually.

Grand Theft Auto 5 will take place in the fictional, Los Angeles-inspired city of Los Santos. Confirmed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the game is rumored to be also set to appear on next-gen consoles as well at some point.

If the game is this highly anticipated almost six full months before release, then gamers looking to explore Los Santos will be in a fevered state by the time that the game is actually released. With the promise of a huge city to explore, much is expected from the fifth entry into the series.
