Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 smartphone have received an Android update by carrier U.S. Cellular.

The Android update are for Samsung owners to upgrade their operating system to version 4.1.2, also known as the Jelly Bean.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 owners can update their devices through two methods. The first is registering their device to a Google account, while the second method is to have their device connected to Wi-Fi.

After finding the update, the device owners are instructed to go to "Settings," selected "About Device," then "Software Update," and select "OK." The Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 device owners should then follow the on-screen prompts.

The Galaxy S3 owners, however, can download the update through an additional option. The alternative option is to download the upgrade to their PC and with a USB cable. To download the update through the PC method, it is only available in Microsoft's Windows 7, Vista, or XP operating systems. The Android update is not available through Apple computers.

The Android version 4.1.2 has some improvements such as fixing audio issues with streaming media, enhanced notifications bar, new photo experience, and customizations features.

In addition to the before-mentioned improvements, the following are installed, according to U.S. Cellular:

- Google Now: Google Now brings you just the right information at just the right time. Cards appear throughout the day at the moment you need them, and appear as a notification when they're important.

- Updated Camera App: An updated Camera app that lets you swipe on the viewfinder to jump directly into your Gallery of images for easy photo viewing and sharing.

- Smart App Updates: "Smart app updates" that let you download only the changed portions of updated applications instead of having to download the entire app every time an update rolls in.

- Keyboard: An updated system keyboard with better dictionaries, improved text-to-speech functionality, offline text-to-speech support, and intelligent word prediction (a la SwiftKey).
