By all accounts, Windows phones perform pretty well when compared to their iPhone and Android counterparts. However, Microsoft has been having trouble getting the popular apps to make the move to their platform, resulting in a much smaller selection than either Google Play or the iTunes store.

However, a recent rumor points towards Windows phones possibly receiving Instagram in the near future. A photo has been circulating of an advertisement for a Lumia 620. On the screen is very clearly an Instagram logo, despite the fact that the app is not currently available on the platform.

This is far from confirmation, but may be a clue as to what we'll see next from Microsoft's app selection. The Chinese tech site WPDang added some fuel to the fire, reporting that Instagram is in fact coming to Windows phones, but that it would be a Nokia exclusive. Their information is unconfirmed by official sources, but their track record on these sorts of rumors is fairly good.

Granted, we could all be speculating on nothing. It could be a simple mistake on the part of the graphic designers. In fact, searching on the Windows Phone Store for Instagram will reveal a number of third party apps that have hijacked the Instagram logo. Even if a Windows version of the app is in the works, there's still no word on when it might be arriving, or if it will in fact be exclusive to Nokia phones.

Until we hear from Microsoft, Nokia, or Instagram proper, it's probably best to chalk this one up to just a rumor for now.

Instagram is a popular photo sharing and social networking service. It allows users to take pictures, apply digital filters, and share those photos on sites such as Facebook and Twitter. As of January 2013, the service reportedly has over 100 million registered users.
