Naughty Dog has officially confirmed that a demo for The Last of Us will be arriving in May, ahead of is tentative June launch.

The demo was originally thought to be arriving in March alongside God of War: Ascension. Things got even more confusing however when players discovered a notice on the back of the box that read, "Estimated availability for The Last of Us demo is April 2013. SEN [Sony Entertainment Network] account and internet access required."

However, early reviewers for God of War, which will officially be released on March 12, have found that that the menu option for the demo leads to a countdown clock depicting the two main characters. The end date is set for May 31, 2013, at 9 AM Pacific/noon Eastern/5 PM GMT.

In a subsequent Tweet, Naught Dog has confirmed that this is the actual date the game's demo will be arriving. After a few weeks of confusion, gamers can finally mark their calendars for their first chance to play this hotly anticipated title.

The Last of Us is an upcoming survival horror/action game set in a post-apocalyptic United States, after a cordyceps-type fungus has killed millions. With nature gradually reclaiming the country's urban environments, the military has taken full and ruthless control of the surviving population. The game follows the journey of a hardened black market smuggler who must accompany a 14-year-old girl as they try and escape the military's harsh regime.

Early previews for the game have been extremely positive, winning twenty five awards after its E3 2012 showing. Critics and gamers have so far praised its stunning visuals, unique gameplay, and compelling storytelling. The Last of Us is currently set for a June 14, 2013 release date, exclusively for the PlayStation 3.
