The excitement keeps growing across Georgia as the Powerball jackpot reached $150 million on Thursday. The drawing will take place this Saturday, March 9 at 11 p.m.
The jackpot has been rolling since February 9 and has rolled eight times over.
Though the odds of winning the jackpot prize are approximately 1 in 175 million, it only cost $2 to get in the game while an additional $1 will allow you to add the Power Play multiplier per play. Needless to say, players will have better odds at winning a smaller prize which is only a 1 in 32 chance.
A lucky winner will have the option of choosing between two payment plans: the $150 million jackpot prize paid over 29 years in 30 graduated payments, or the cash option which is approximately $95 million.
The last winning jackpot ticket was scored on February 6, 2013 in which one fortunate Virginia resident walked away with $217 million.
Last November, the Powerball hit an all-time high of $588 million jackpot. There were two winners from Arizona and Missouri.
The proceeds from Powerball go toward a good cause--education in Georgia. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has banked more than $14 billion to the state of Georgia for education.
All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
