Kansas O-line Gets Shakier

The Kansas City Chiefs have a rare opportunity to select the best player in the draft with their #1 pick. Unfortunately for them, the 2013 NFL Draft is weak at the top, but loaded with depth which makes their selection all the more difficult.

Kansas City's 2-14 record doesn't represent how much talent they have on their team, but with a new regime, changes were coming. KC needed a QB, so they traded with the 49ers to nab Alex Smith. They had a whole at LT with Brandon Albert set to hit Free Agency, so they franchised him. So you can imagine NFL pundits are left scratching their head when they chose to cut RT Eric Winston.

Cutting Winston doesn't make sense for two reasons: he's still one of the best Right Tackles in the league and he still carried $6 million in dead cap from his $6.5 price.

Good news for RT needy teams, you can grab one now since Winston doesn't fall into Free Agency rules, plus his salary doesn't count against any potential compensatory considerations.

Look for him to get a new contract in the neighborhood of 3 years, $20 million.

Spikes is Back to Looking for a New Home

Veteran LB Takeo Spikes will be back on the market following his fifteenth season. Once a dominant presence in the middle, Spikes play has declined over the years.

He's still a serviceable backup and provides leadership for a young team, but he does have a nasty little bit of a bad luck stuck to him.

In his 15 seasons as an NFL Linebacker, Spikes and his teams have never made it to the playoffs. Certainly not a deal breaker, but interesting none-the-less.
