Sony Santa Monica has just revealed a new game mode that will be featured in the upcoming God of War: Ascension. The mode will be called Trial of the Gods, and will allow two players to take on increasingly difficult waves of bad guys in a timed arena.

The co-op mode will feature fifteen different kinds of enemies, including Cyclops, Cerberuses, and Satyrs. Each round will have a time limit, with players earning more time by killing these enemies. The goal is to make it through five of the progressively more difficult rounds without dying or running out of time. If you do, you'll get an exclusive boss for you and a buddy to slay.

Experience gained in this mode will go towards your multiplayer account. Trial of the Gods was designed as a co-op experience, but it can also be played as a single player mode.

At launch the new mode will be available in three different maps: Desert of Lost Souls, Forum of Hercules, and Rotunda of Olympus. Sony has stated that more arenas are planned, but it did not specify when they would be released, or if they would need to be purchased.

In addition, Sony has also released details on the pre-order incentives for God of War: Ascension. Pre-ordering the standard or the Collector's Edition of the upcoming game will give players free access to the "Mythological Heroes" DLC pack, which includes exclusive in-game weapons and armor.

The new God of War will be available on the PlayStation 3 on March 12 in North America, March 13 in Europe, March 14 in Australia and March 15 in the U.K.
