On Tuesday, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger was admitted to a New York City hospital for observation after he suffered from a fall in his home.
The New York-Presbyterian Hospital released a statement confirming Kissinger's admittance and saying that they expected the 89-year-old ex-diplomat to be discharged later in the day. However, the hospital declined to disclose details about his fall or his injuries.
Kissinger, a Republican who served under presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977. He is currently the chairman of Kissinger Associates.
The German-born diplomat played a prominent role in United States foreign policy from 1969 to 1977. He spent his teen years in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan and briefly attended the City University Of New York before going on to earn his A.B. degree in political science at Harvard College in 1950. He also obtained his M.A. and Ph.D degrees at Harvard University in 1952 and 1954, respectively.
Back in December, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was also treated at New York-Presbyterian Hospital after doctors discovered a blood clot near her brain. She was treated with blood thinners to dissolve the clot, which did not result in a stroke or any neurological damage. She was discharged in early January.
