It doesn't look good for the prospects of Los Angeles to become an NFL football town again.

News broke Tuesday that Eschutz Entertainment Group, which has forwarded a plan to the NFL and city officials to build a new downtown stadium for NFL football games in L.A., has hit a snag on their plans.

"The numbers just don't work, no matter how you look at the deal," a league source told Yahoo! Sports in February. "It's either too hard for AEG to make money [and pay the debt on the stadium] or too hard for the team. I just can't see a way for it to work."

League officials said Monday that they are continuing to monitor the AEG situation and are still interested in several sites in L.A. to build a new stadium; however, Yahoo! Sports notes, the league believes that the $1.8 billion price tag on plans to create a new stadium will make the deal "unworkable."

Los Angeles hasn't had an NFL team since 1994 after the Raiders packed up and went to Oakland while the Rams headed east to St. Louis.

The Los Angeles City Council actually voted to support AEG's plan six months ago. However, aside from the price associated with the stadium complicating a deal to bring back football to Los Angeles, AEG has been up for sale, the bidding process in the early stages, ESPN reported in January.

Marc Ganis, who helped bring the Oakland Raiders to L.A. during the 1980s, noted that there were many "major, if not fatal" flaws in AEG's plan, adding that he found it "surprising the Los Angeles political leadership has not picked up on it from the NFL."
