Whether or not Metro: Last Light would ever hit stores was unclear due to the THQ bankruptcy case. Luckily though, Deep Silver, publisher of the Dead Island franchise, purchased the rights to the title, allowing 4A Games to continue work on their upcoming game.

Deep Silver has announced today that Metro: Last Light will be available on May 14 in the US, and May 17 in Europe. The game is a direct sequel to 2010's Metro 2033, and will return to the same post-apocalyptic Moscow setting. Players will once again follow Artyom as he tries to help the surviving metro population retake the surface and avoid the threat of civil war. The game will also feature an impressive voice cast including Lance Henriksen, Nolan North, Khary Payton, and Patton Oswalt.

Metro: Last Light is currently available for pre-order. Purchasing the pre-order only limited edition will come with an exclusive in game rifle, the modified Russian rifle, extra military grade bullets, which are used as currency in the world of Metro, and Ranger Mode, a game mode featuring no HUD, less bullets, and more difficult combat scenarios.

The title will be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Although it was originally announced as an upcoming Wii U title, the developers have since discarded those plans due to the technical limitations of the platform.

"Beneath the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro, the remnants of mankind are besieged by deadly threats from outside - and within.

Mutants stalk the catacombs beneath the desolate surface and hunt amidst the poisoned skies above. But rather than stand united, the station-cities of the Metro are locked in a struggle for the ultimate power, a doomsday device from the military vaults of D6. A civil war is stirring that could wipe humanity from the face of the earth forever.

As Artyom, burdened by guilt but driven by hope, you hold the key to our survival - the last light in our darkest hour..."
