One scene in the upcoming Bioshock: Infinite offended one developer of the game so much that the employee attempted to quit, according to Ken Levine, Irrational Games Co Founder in an interview with Gamespot. The game has some fairly substantial religious themes, which were disturbing enough to prompt an immediate backlash.

As Levine himself puts it, "There was a scene in the game at the end where there's a gentleman here--one of our artists--who got to a point in the game, played it, turned off BioShock, opened up his computer, opened Microsoft Word, and wrote a resignation letter; it had offended him so much..."

It is important to note that the employee in question did not end up quitting. Indeed, if anything, it has helped the game become even better. Levine credits the employee with helping him understand and develop the game's central antagonist, Comstock, a religous fanatic in control of the city in which the game takes place.

"I realized that something I could connect to was a notion of forgiveness and what an important part that is of the New Testament and why Christ was such a revolutionary figure...And thinking about how I would incorporate the power of that notion to Comstock into his world was, to me, the key," Levine said.

Levine did not discuss the scene of the game that caused so much controversy, so it will be interesting to see if gamers can infer what part of the game Levine is talking about. While Irrational Games have made some weighty games involving moral questions, nothing has reportedly caused an incident like this before. Gamers can find out for themselves what all the fuss is about when Bioshock Infinite comes out on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC March 26th.
