The Windows 7 Internet Explorer (IE) browser will see an upgrade in the form of IE 10.

Microsoft has announced IE 10 is now available for Windows 7, as Microsoft's General Manager of Internet Explorer Ryan Gavin noted, in hopes of "bringing the most modern and high performing version of IE to over 700 [million] Windows customers."

One improvement the 700 million Windows customers can expect to see is the browser's speed.

"With IE10 we continue delivering the best performance for real world Web sites on your Windows device," wrote IE Group Program Manager Rob Mauceri in a blog post. "As with Windows 8, IE10 on Windows 7 improves performance across the board with faster page loading, faster interactivity, and faster JavaScript performance, while reducing CPU usage and improving battery life on mobile PCs."

Security is also enhanced with the "Do Not Track" signal, or DNT. Customers will have the option to turn-off the DNT signal and further increased privacy controls on IE10 on Windows 7.

"Our commitment to keeping Windows customers in control of their privacy and data sharing continues, especially in the current environment of so much user data being collected online without explicit consent or user awareness," added Mauceri.

According to Gavin, IE10 has a 60 percent increase in modern web standards and believes it will make IE a reliable browser choice for millions of Windows customers worldwide.

In conjunction to the release, Microsoft launched a new IE commercial featuring singer, songwriter, and composer Blake Lewis (see below).

The browser update comes a week after Microsoft announced Hotmail users will upgrade to Outlook.com.

"The upgrade is seamless and instant for Hotmail customers; everything including their @hotmail.com email address, password, contacts, etc., will stay the same," noted Microsoft in a statement.
