NFL Combine 2013: Jets Shop Revis at Scouting Event

While most GMs were trying to gauge who the next NFL star would be at the combine, one was busy putting up the "For Sale" sign on his current franchise player.

Representatives for the New York Jets were "actively" shopping cornerback Darrelle Revis at the 2013 NFL combine, according to New York Daily News. Reports surfaced today that prospective bidders and the Jets were feeling each other to discuss what the price would be for the three-time All-Pro. It's been believed that the beleaguered Jets have wanted to shop Revis for a while, but the organization has been playing it close to the vest, touting Revis' abilities while reminding reporters that they are looking to improve the team.

"Me and my job and Rex and everyone involved will always field calls and we'll always have internal discussions about how we can improve our team day to day, position by position," said new GM John Idzik."So that this is an ongoing process, but that it is not isolated to any one player and not isolated to any one position. That is just something we do on a daily, a weekly, a monthly basis. Particularly at this time of the year when you are going into free agency, you are going into the draft."

Revis has one more year left on his contract and has made it no secret that he'll want to be well compensated. He's set to earn $6 million including a $3 million base salary. He signed his current contract awarding him $46 million over four years, but it wasn't without controversy. Revis held out and didn't sign until the end of the 2010 training camp. Prospective teams are likely looking to avoid a repeat of that.

Normally a player of Revis' caliber would be highly sought after this off-season, but he tore his ACL in his left knee in week 3 of the 2012 season. He's scheduled to be 100% by the time the league starts, but teams may want to see what he has left in the tank first.

Revis has expressed frustration with his inability to get a new deal as well as the reports that he's on the trade block. Idzek claims that Ryan is out of the loop when it comes to trades, but Ryan wouldn't pass up a chance to make a statement. Calling Revis a "tremendous player", he was quick to jokingly put things into perspective. "I'm going to coach whoever is here, but John and everybody would be involved in that." said Ryan. "Certainly, to sit down and say absolutely not, we're not going to do it, I'm not going to say this player or that player, but if we got Jim Brown in that trade, we would probably look into it.
