Blizzard almost simultaneously energized and disappointed gamers at the recent PlayStation 4 event, when they took the stage only to announce more Diablo III. After a series of poor design choices, coupled with one of the most appalling launches in recent memory, interest in the game has waned significantly.

Blizzard meant for it to be a flagship title that would stick around for a long, long time, much in the same way that Diablo II and the original StarCraft have. Perhaps in a move to wrangle up some more interest, the company announced last week that it would be bringing the game to PlayStation owners.

That didn't mean much to those who already own the game on the PC side though. However, if the game were to support crossplay between the PC and PlayStation communities, this could definitely reinvigorate the player base, and hopefully breathe a little life into the game.

Sadly, this does not appear to be the case. Community manager Vaeflare posted an update on the Blizzard forums, stating very clearly that the PlayStation and PC multiplayer services would remain separate. In turn, this also means that the, "characters on your Battle.net account and PlayStation account will also remain separate."

Additionally, the PlayStation versions of the game will not support a USB mouse or keyboard, nor will the PC version be getting controller support.

In terms of allowing an analog controller hookup for the PC, we don't have any plans for that kind of support right now. Similarly, since Diablo III for console was designed with a controller in mind, the PlayStation version of Diablo III will not support USB mice or keyboards.

He elaborated on the issue saying, "While we think cross-platform play would be awesome, there are currently no plans to allow connectivity between PlayStation Network and Battle.net (this is pretty standard for most games that have PC and console support)."

This may be true, but Valve got it to work when they brought Portal 2 to the PS3, so obviously it is possible. After a string of disappointing news, I would not be surprised if gamers are starting to tire of Blizzard's apparent lack of effort.
