Naughty Dog, the company behind the cinematic Uncharted series, has decided to let gamers try out the multiplayer portion of Uncharted 3 for free...to a certain extent. Players will now be able to play the game for free until they reach level 15. From there players can choose to either pay 4.99 to be able to play until they reach level 25, or pay 19.99 and play without a level cap. Players will also have to pay if they want to play several of the different multiplayer modes besides the basics. Co-op Arena costs 9.99, and Co-op Adventure will cost 11.99.

Of course, players also have the option to buy Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Game of the Year Edition as well. This included the single player campaign, the multiplayer, and all of the DLC released for the game. Digital copies of the game of the year edition costs 39.99, roughly the same amount as all the multiplayer components put together.

Uncharted 3 Game Director Justin Richmond is quoted as saying to IGN."We really just wanted to add to that community as easily as we could." Having the multiplayer free to play is a great way to introduce even more players to the rich, chaotic multiplayer experience of Uncharted 3, and should entice people on the fence about the game to buy the full version.

Richmond estimates that about half a million users log into the game's multiplayer a month, and having a FTP option should increase that number significantly. As for those who have the game already, Naughty Dog said said that they will be giving users something special for their loyalty, though when and what it is is still a mystery.
